Terms & Conditions of Warranty

This warranty only applies to the steel tanks manufactured by Great Northern Tanks.

Great Northern Tanks is committed to providing its customers with the best quality steel water tank on the market.  Great Northern Tanks supports that commitment by providing a long-term manufacturer’s warranty for all steel tanks manufactured by Great Northern Tanks as detailed below. 

THIS WARRANTY IS NON-TRANSFERABLE AND ONLY APPLIES TO THE ORIGINAL PURCHASER

Subject to the terms and conditions set out below, Great Northern Tanks warrants:

1. for a period of 20 years from the date of installation – the steel structure of the tank body and the water retaining liner membrane against defects in material and/or Workmanship, which defects result in leakage (the liability of Great Northern Tanks under this warranty is limited to a pro-rata share of the original purchase price as set out below); and 
2. for a period of 10 years from the date of installation – the liner membrane against defects in material and/or Workmanship, which defects result in leakage (the liability of Great Northern Tanks under this warranty is limited to a pro-rata share of the original purchase price as set out below); and 
3. for a period of 12 months from the date of installation, the steel water tank and liner including any accessories against damage or defects sustained as a result of installation by Great Northern Tanks or one of the Dealers.

Definitions

In this warranty: 

Dealer	means an authorised dealer or distributor of Great Northern Tanks.
Great Northern Tanks	means Great Northern Tanks Pty Ltd ACN 648 992 625.
Non-Workmanship	means mechanical stress, environmental stress or external environment or otherwise determined by Great Northern Tanks.
Pests	means vermin, ants, white-ants, termites or any other boring type of insects.
Potable Water	means potable water as defined by the Australian Drinking Water Guidelines.
Unauthorised	means any work undertaken by any person not authorised by Great Northern Tanks.
Workmanship	means any part of the handling, assembly or manufacturing processes performed by on or behalf of Great Northern Tanks to manufacture the tank body and the water retaining liner membrane.

Terms and Conditions 

Subject to Great Northern Tanks’ obligations under applicable laws which cannot be excluded, modified, or restricted under law:

1. This warranty is conditional upon:
   1. Great Northern Tanks being notified of any defect within 14 days of the defect becoming apparent; and
   2. the original tank owner providing proof that it was the original purchaser of the tank (if requested by Great Northern Tanks).
2. This warranty shall apply only if all the following conditions are met:
   1. the water tank is installed on a clean inert crusher rock pad or reinforced concrete slab in accordance with Great Northern Tanks’ recommendations;
   2. the water tank is filled with a minimum amount of potable water in accordance with Great Northern Tanks recommendations on the day of installation;  
   3. the water tank is fitted with a Great Northern Tanks steel dome roof at time of installation;
   4. the water tank is installed by Great Northern Tanks’ personnel or a Dealer; 
   5. regular maintenance of the water tank has been carried out in accordance with the Great Northern Tanks’ owner’s manual; and
   6. all payments for the water tank have been received in full.
3. This warranty shall not apply if there is evidence of any of the following circumstances:
   1. tank pad and foundation settlement or movement;
   2. misuse or abuse of the tank or liner;
   3. accidental or malicious damage to the tank or liner;
   4. damage caused by Pests or livestock;
   5. damage caused by natural disaster (including without limitation fire, flood, cyclone or earthquake or other acts of god);
   6. vegetation or root intrusion;
   7. storage of anything other than Potable Water;
   8. corrosion, rust, discoloration or fading of the tank exterior or any other components, accessories, fittings or fixings due to the presence of Unauthorised fittings or fixtures (e.g. electrolysis due to dissimilar metals);
   9. damage as a result of unreported leakage;
   10. Unauthorised modifications, alterations and/or additions to the tank or its fittings or any damage caused by such modifications, alterations and/or additions;
   11. relocation of the tank other than by Great Northern Tanks or a Dealer;
   12. the tank liner being exposed to sunlight;
   13. damage caused by chemical attack, and in particular (without limitation), chlorine attack resulting from utilisation of an unapproved chlorine dosage method; or
   14. other Non-Workmanship issues.
4. Other conditions
   1. Subject to condition 4(b), if the water tank leaks due to a default in material and all Workmanship within the warranty period and a valid and compliant claim is made under this warranty, then Great Northern Tanks will, at its sole discretion, either repair or replace the tank body and/or liner (as applicable).
   2. The total liability of Great Northern Tanks under this warranty is limited to that part of the original purchase price of the water tank and liner that bears the same ratio to the original purchase price as the remaining term of the warranty period (as at the date on which the warranty claim is notified to Great Northern Tanks) bears to the full warranty period.  To the extent that the value of any repair or replacement exceeds the liability of Great Northern Tanks under this warranty, such repairs or replacement will be supplied to the value of Great Northern Tanks’ pro rata liability.  Where the water tank is installed at a site that is greater than 100km from a Dealer’s office, then the cost of transport, accommodation and travelling between the nearest Dealer’s office and the installed site shall be the tank owner’s responsibility. 
   3. It will be at the sole discretion of Great Northern Tanks to decide to either repair or replace the damaged tank items listed on the warranty claim form.  Great Northern Tanks will seek to resolve the claim in the most economical way.  In the event of a tank(s) being repaired and/or fitted with a new liner by Great Northern Tanks or its Dealers (pursuant to this warranty), this warranty shall not be extended and shall apply only for the remainder of the original warranty period.
   4. The terms and conditions set out in this warranty constitute the entire agreement between Great Northern Tanks and the tank owner with respect to their subject matter.  The benefits conferred by this warranty are in addition to all rights and remedies granted by law provided that, to the extent permitted by law, Great Northern Tanks excludes any other warranties and conditions (express or implied) in relation to the tank and liner, including (without limitation) any warranty relating to its description, quality or fitness for purpose. 
   5. Where Great Northern Tanks’ liability may be imposed by law, Great Northern Tanks’ liability in relation to any defect in, or supply of, the tank and/or liner is limited, at its sole option, to the repair of the goods, the replacement of the goods or the cost of the replacement or repair of the goods.
   6. To the maximum extent permitted by law, Great Northern Tanks is not responsible for any direct, indirect, special, incidental or consequential losses or damages (including loss of water or consequential damage caused by leakage) resulting from any breach of warranty or condition or any defect in the tank and/or liner.
   7. The tank owner will bear the cost of making a claim under this warranty.
5. Warranty not transferable  

This warranty benefits the original purchaser of the water tank only.  This warranty is not transferable by the original purchaser to any third party. 

6. Warranty Procedure

To initiate a claim under this warranty you must complete and submit a warranty claim form (which forms are available on our website at www.greatnortherntanks.com.au) with Great Northern Tanks.

THIS WARRANTY SPECIFICALLY DOES NOT APPLY TO PRE FABRICATED STEEL TANKS NOR PRE FABRICATED POLY TANKS SUPPLIED BY GREAT NORTHERN TANKS NOR DOES IT APPLY TO ANY FITTINGS AND FIXTURES INSTALLED WITH YOUR GREAT NORTHERN TANK.
